Suzanne Blier wrote an excellent article in the Cambridge Day explaining our ranked-choice voting system in Cambridge. The bottom line is that new candidates need high-ranking votes, preferably #1, to last into later rounds of the counting process to get elected. If you want to change our City Council, put the new candidates in the top slots followed by incumbents.
